A program for everyone
The Calgary Rowing Club offers programs for every age, experience level, and goal. Whether you are learning to row for the first time, returning to the sport, training to compete, or looking for a fun way to stay active, we have a program that meets you where you are. Our supportive coaches, welcoming community, and year-round training opportunities make it easy to find your place in the boat.
Non-Member Programs
Adults
Learn to Row
Learn the fundamentals of rowing both on and off the water, including proper equipment use and safety. This program provides an introduction to the sport and prepares participants to join the club upon completion. Sessions are offered in the spring and summer on weekday mornings, with additional options available on weekend afternoons.
Who is it for?
For athletes aged 18 and older.
Prerequisites
Must know how to swim.

Junior Program
The goal of the Junior Program is for every athlete to develop, improve, and gain speed on the water in a supportive and positive environment. The program includes multiple streams, ranging from recreational to competitive. Competitive streams focus on training and preparation for regattas, while the recreation stream emphasizes skill development, confidence, and enjoyment of the sport. Athlete placement is determined through an on-water assessment and follow-up with the coach. Training schedules range from three to six practices per week, depending on the assigned group.
Who is it for?
For athletes aged 12–18 (must be 18 as of December 31).
Prerequisites
New rowers must complete one or both of the following before joining the Junior Program:
- Spring Junior Intake (May 9, 10, 16, and 17 from 1:00–3:00 pm)
- A CRC Summer Camp

Senior Program
The Calgary Rowing Club Senior Program is a year-round, competitive program for experienced athletes. Senior athletes train together across a range of training groups, with all streams focused on competition and racing. The goal of the Senior Program is to provide a high-performance training environment where athletes develop strength, speed, and technical excellence while preparing to compete at local, regional, national, and international regattas. Athletes can expect a high training commitment, with practices scheduled five to eight times per week. Those adult atheletes looking to row recreationally and not compete are encouraged to join a Masters program.
Who is it for?
For athletes aged 19+ seeking a competitive rowing experience, including post-secondary students competing with their university teams.
Prerequisites
New rowers joining at the start of the season are invited to participate in the Senior Novice Program, which focuses on developing proficiency in a single rowing shell. The program runs five times per week in May and June. Upon completion, athletes are considered experienced and transition into the Senior Program. Learn to Row is not required.
Experienced rowers should be able to confidently row a single rowing shell.

Adults
Masters Program
The Masters program provides a supportive and positive environment where athletes can develop, improve, and gain speed on the water while building lifelong fitness. The program includes both recreational and competitive streams, allowing athletes to choose the training group that best fits their goals and desired training intensity. Training expectations vary by group, with opportunities to row recreationally or prepare for competition. Once registered with an adult membership, additional fees apply for participation in competitive training groups.
Who is it for?
For athletes aged 19+ interested in recreational or competitive adult rowing. The primary age range is 35+.
Prerequisites
New rowers must complete our Learn to Row program or private lessons before joining the Masters program.

Para-Rowing Program
The Para Rowing Program offers an inclusive and supportive environment for athletes of all abilities, from beginners to experienced rowers. An assessment with the Para coach is required prior to joining to ensure appropriate equipment and support. The club offers a range of para rowing shells and adaptive equipment to accommodate a variety of physical abilities.

Rowing Camps
Summer Camps
CRC Summer Camps are week-long, full-day camps designed to introduce youth to the fundamentals of on and off-water rowing in a fun, safe, and active environment. Each camp wraps up with our “Slush Cup,” a friendly race that parents and caregivers are invited to attend. Athletes aged 12+ who complete a summer camp are eligible to join the Junior Program.
Who is it for?
For youth aged 10–18. No rowing experience required.
Schedule
Camps run Monday to Friday from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm throughout July and August, with seven camps offered each summer.

High Performance Summer Camps
The CRC High Performance Summer Camp is an accelerated rowing program designed for young athletes looking to build skills quickly in a fun, safe, and active environment. Participants are introduced to the fundamentals of both on- and off-water rowing through focused instruction and training. Each camp concludes with our “Slush Cup,” a friendly race that parents and caregivers are invited to attend. Athletes aged 12+ who complete a summer camp are eligible to join the Junior Program.
Who is it for?
For athletes aged 14–18 with previous sport experience. No rowing experience required.
Schedule
Half-day camps run for five consecutive days from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm throughout July and August. Seven camps are offered each summer.

Private Lessons
Private and Semi-Private Learn-to-Scull lessons provide a personalized introduction to rowing or an opportunity to refine existing skills in a focused, coached setting. Over two 1.5-hour sessions, athletes work one-on-one or in small groups of up to four participants with an experienced coach. Beginners are introduced to rowing fundamentals, including erg technique, boat safety, and sculling in a single boat. More experienced athletes may focus on technical drills and/or structured workouts.
Who is it for?
For athletes aged 18 and older.
Schedule
Lessons are primarily offered on weekdays during the day. Limited weekend availability is offered. Typical time slots are 10:00–11:30 am or 1:00–3:30 pm.
